UC Irvine hosts Supplier Showcase
The Irvine campus held a Supplier Showcase event on October 27th. The purpose of the event was to introduce major campus suppliers with UC or UCI contracts to campus clients. For many years, UCI Central Purchasing has been hosting Supplier Shows dedicated to small businesses, but this was the first with an emphasis on UCIBuy (UCI’s eCommerce portal) and Suppliers (including Fisher, Grainger, Office Solutions and other small local businesses).
The Purchasing and Risk Services Department utilized a core team of five people from across several disciplines (including Strategic Sourcing, Marketing and Communications and eCommerce) engaging both campus and supplier resources to ensure a smooth-running show. Almost 200 campus clients attended, the majority of which were from departmental purchasing. The feedback received has been uniformly positive, with users able to capitalize on the opportunity to meet and network with Suppliers, and Suppliers being exposed to many new campus contacts.
Post event surveys have been sent out to both campus attendees and suppliers, and the feedback will be used to enhance upcoming events. Future shows will include eCommerce, small businesses and strategically sourced suppliers. The next Showcase is scheduled to take place in March 2017.
