November 2015 UCIP News and Updates
UC Berkeley began necessary preparations for the kickoff of the new Berkeley Way – Tolman Hall project this month. The project, which is slated to break ground in mid-December, will ultimately replace the seismically unsafe Tolman Hall that currently stands on campus. The original Tolman will be demolished upon the new building’s completion.
The new Tolman Hall will comprise of 230,000 square feet and be located in downtown Berkeley. This building will house the Graduate School of Education as well as the Department of Psychology that both reside in the old Tolman form until completion of construction. The School of Public Health will also move into the new structure. The ground floor will house a number of retail stores to blend with the commercial corridor already located on Shattuck Avenue.
This $103 million project is anticipated to avoid insurance costs between $371,450 to $2,424,745 (estimate) by enrolling into the University Controlled Insurance Program (UCIP).
