New Project Enrolled in UCIP: UC Berkeley – Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive
The University of California Berkeley’s Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive project has been enrolled in the University Controlled Insurance Program (UCIP), a program providing General Liability, Excess Liability and Workers Compensation coverage for many of the University of California’s construction projects. This project consists of a dramatic repurposing of the former UC Berkeley Printing Plant which will be integrated with additional new construction. The facility will provide a world class visual arts center to showcase art, film, performance, and education, as well as create an access point to UC Berkeley’s archives. The new Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive will benefit not only UC Berkeley’s student body, but also the surrounding community and the region as a whole.
The University Controlled Insurance Program should bring significant savings off the final project cost, forecasted between $600,000 and $2M based on initial project estimates. More importantly, the UCIP provides innovative protection for the construction of an innovative cultural facility.
